چکیده

This study presents examples of successful restoration projects for biodiversity conservation. In West France, the Pinail National Nature Reserve is a protected wetland interspersed with more than 6000 ponds. inhabited by 50 species Odonata and thus key area damselflies dragonflies past, when limestone was exploited, streams plateau were artificially channeled rectilinearly, running to Vienne River. Eventually blocked biomass sediments resulting in water flowing mainly underground. 2011, two dug recreated lost habitats such as meanders openly reconnecting bodies standing (two sites: Rivau (20 m) Hutte (400 streams). The diversity abundance are annually monitored following transect inventories since 1995 still ongoing. Diversity compared before after restoration. increased at both sites due addition lotic consequently additional new species. number observed almost doubled on (from 5.4 9.9 spp). By extrapolation total site from 15 18 spp 29–37 spp. also greatly 770 % individuals Rivau. Similarly, 400 m stream, extrapolated 31 38 35–43 spp; well 475 individuals. These created leading local enrichment conservation success. More specifically, Coenagrion mercuriale (Odonata: Zygoptera), one Europe's most threatened listed European Habitats directive, successfully recolonized stream colonized stream.

Measuring β‐diversity with species abundance data

In 2003, 24 presence-absence β-diversity metrics were reviewed and a number of trade-offs and redundancies identified. We present a parallel investigation into the performance of abundance-based metrics of β-diversity. β-diversity is a multi-faceted concept, central to spatial ecology. There are multiple metrics available to quantify it: the choice of metric is an important decision. We test 16...

Genetic diversity of an endangered species, Fokienia hodginsii (Cupressaceae)

Fokienia hodginsii (Cupressaceae) is distributed in montane evergreen forests in North and Central Vietnam and extends to southeastern China at 900 m above sea level. The species has been threatened in its area of distribution in recent years because of habitat destruction and over-exploitation. The genetic variation of F. hodginsii in Vietnam was investigated on the basis of eight ISSR markers...

California dragonfly and damselfly (Odonata) database: temporal and spatial distribution of species records collected over the past century

The recently completed Odonata database for California consists of specimen records from the major entomology collections of the state, large Odonata collections outside of the state, previous literature, historical and recent field surveys, and from enthusiast group observations. The database includes 32,025 total records and 19,000 unique records for 106 species of dragonflies and damselflies...

Species diversity, structure and dynamics of two populations of an endangered species, Magnolia dealbata (Magnoliaceae).

Little is known about the ecology and demography of the genus Magnolia. Magnolia dealbata Zucc. is an endangered species endemic to Mexico. Two contrasting populations of M. dealbata (one from the grasslands and other from a secondary cloud forest) were studied. We asked the following questions: (a) Are size structure (diameter at breast height, DBH) and infrutescence production significantly d...
